Crackpot Player's Guide

If you're a TCG beginner or you're new to Crackpot, this guide should help you familiarize yourself (at least a little!). You can refer back to it at any time that you need to. :) This isn't really a complete online TCG guide; it assumes you already have at least some knowledge of how to play an online TCG. If you still have any questions after reading the guide or need help with something, please don't hesitate to ask by e-mailing us at crackpot.tcg@gmail.com.

Getting started

The purpose of playing an onling TCG is to collect cards in order to master decks. To collect cards, you have to trade with other players, play games, and engage in other activities. There are various ways to gain cards. You can find a more extensive list below.

All you need to play an online TCG is a name, e-mail address, and place to store your cards (called a trade post or trading post). Your trade post can be a blog or a website. If you have all of the things necessary to play, you can read the rules and afterwards fill out a join form. When you join, we'll e-mail you a starter pack of cards that you can put up on your trade post. These will be your first Crackpot cards. :)

Earning cards

The basic goal of playing an online TCG is to earn cards. This can be done several ways:

1 - Your starter pack
When you join Crackpot, you will receive a starter pack consisting of:

1 random card from your choice deck
5 random cards
1 random song coupon

2 - Playing games
Playing games is probably the easiest way to earn cards! Games are updating weekly, biweekly, and monthly and prizes for games vary.

3 - Trading with others
Trading with other members is the best way to get the cards you want specifically. You can go through the member list to find members you might want to trade with, and send them a trade request if they have something you want.

4 - Freebies
Freebies at Crackpot are updated weekly. You may only take as many cards as you're told you are allowed, and you must record it in your trade log as well, as leave a comment if a comment box is available. You may not take freebies from previous updates. Once the update leaves the index page, the freebies are no longer up for grabs. Sorry!

5 - Leveling up (Itchy through Yuku)
Leveling up earns you a prize! Check below for the level guide to see when you meet the requirements for leveling up.

1 choice card
2 random cards
2 random song coupons

6 - Leveling up (Rock through Judayajin)
Once you reach the level Rock, you begin to earn a greater prize for leveling up. Check below for the level guide to see when you meet the requirements for leveling up.

1 choice card
3 random cards
3 random song coupons

7 - Deck mastery (10 cards)
When you master a 10 card deck, you receive a reward:

1 choice card
1 random card
1 random song coupon
1 shiny master badge!

8 - Deck mastery (20 cards)
When you master a 20 card deck, you receive a reward:

2 choice cards (from different sets)
2 random cards
1 random song coupon
1 shiny master badge!

9 - Your birthday
When the month of your birthday comes around, you may fill out the birthday form and receive:

1 choice card
2 random cards
1 random song coupon

10 - Holidays
Around certain holidays, special events and giveaways will be held. Watch out for them!

11 - Donating
Donating things such as level badges, link buttons, and deck images will not only help us out but earn you some goodies! Check the donate page for more information regarding donations.

12 - Referrals
Invite your friends to join! Everytime you refer a new member to join Crackpot, you receive:

1 random card

13 - Random giveaways
From time to time, we may feel generous and give out random cards! :)

Crackpot's currency

Crackpot's currency is a little different than most TCGs. Instead of earning coupons or money to buy/exchange for cards, you earn song coupons which are used to make CDs. There are six types of song coupons, shown below:

Ballad Singles, mini-albums, albums, compilations
Instrumental Singles
Interlude Albums
Pop song Singles, mini-albums, albums, compilations
Remix Singles, remix albums
Rock song Singles, mini-albums, albums, compilations

When you collect a certain combination of song coupons, you can record CDs through the recording studio. Recording CDs will give you rewards. Rewards vary depending on what type of CD you're making! All CDs come with a complimentary CD cover if you would like to submit an image for it. Recording CDs will also give you CD sales, which are required to level up.

Mastering a deck

When you collect all the cards in a certain deck, you have mastered that deck. To complete your mastery, you have to fill out a form, and you will be sent a master badge. When you receive the master badge, you can move the deck's cards to your "mastered" section on your trade post and put the master badge up. A mastered deck's cards still count towards your card count, but cannot be traded with other traders. Once you master a deck, you have to keep those cards for the rest of your Crackpot TCG life!

Keeping a trade log

Trade logs are TCG basics and are necessary. Every time you do anything on the TCG that earns you a card, coupon, or CD sales, you must record it in your trade log. A trade log might look something like this:

June 18, 2008
--Received starter pack: sea of love 10, ti amo 03, sea god 06, dancing diva 08
--Trade with Sam: dancing diva 08 for tomorrow 05

June 19, 2008
--Trade with Kou: sea of love 10 for day break 05

Of course, you may stylize and tailor your trade log to whatever works for you. Just remember to record every new card, coupon, or CD sale in it.
